Remembrance 2025
Duston Parish Council's cherished Remembrance Poppy display has been beautifully restored this year, with a powerful new addition honouring the service and sacrifice of animals in wartime.
Originally created in 2018 to mark the WW1 Centenary, the display features thousands of hand-crafted red poppies cascading down the front of St Luke's Centre. This year, the installation has grown to include over 1,000 purple poppies arranged on a striking wooden war-horse silhouette — a moving tribute to the animals who served alongside soldiers.
The restoration and new design were brought to life thanks to Fiona from Cosy Rosie UK, working in collaboration with the Fibre Arts Friends group, who meet twice monthly at Duston Community Centre. Many talented local crafters also contributed, knitting and crocheting hundreds of poppies to revive and expand the display.
Meanwhile, the Duston Knitwits have been busy adorning our red post-boxes with delightful poppy-themed toppers, adding a heartfelt touch across the community.
We are deeply grateful to all our wonderful volunteers, and to Cosy Rosie UK and Fibre Arts Friends, for helping us realise this vision and honouring remembrance in such a meaningful way.
