About Us

A parish council is a local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people in the parish. It is the level of local government closest to the community. They have few duties but a number of powers. A Parish council, for instance, can directly run local facilities such as leisure centres, theatres, manage parks and establish bylaws.

Following the Local Government Act 1894 a Duston Parish Council came into existence and ran a number of local amenities such as Errington Park. However, when the village of Duston was incorporated into the Borough of Northampton in 1965, following the Northampton (Local Government Areas) Order S.I 1965 No. 250, the then Duston Parish Council was dissolved.

After 26 year gap the present modern day Duston Parish Council was formed following the Northampton Parish Order 1991. Our inaugural election and meeting happened in 1991.
