Duston Remembers 1918 - 2018

Here's our story...
Once upon a time we asked our lovely residents...
Can you knit, craft, crochet or sew?
We would like to create a poppy cascade to commemorate the WW1 centenary, made by members of the Duston Community
The cascade will be displayed during November at St Luke's Centre on the corner of Millway for all to enjoy
You can follow the patterns available or design your own; all that we ask is that you keep to the iconic red. If you can create weather proof poppies using any other method that's fine too
We'd like as many people as possible to get involved by encouraging groups, schools and individuals to join in. We can take poppies right up to mid October.
We will need help to fix the poppies - if this is something you would like to volunteer for then please contact us to register your interest.
Please contact us directly to let us know how you would like to get involved

Local knitting group 'knit-wits' getting us off to a flying start
See our Gallery for lots more pictures
St Luke's Primary School held an event and invited members of the history group to go along and show the children what is was like to live during the war. You can view the pictures here

What an amazing effort!
Over 100 groups, individuals & organisations took up the challenge
5200 poppies were knitted, crocheted, crafted & sewn
50 volunteers glued, pinned & poked in the poppies
Our facebook post reached almost 55,000 people
Thank you for getting involved
We are currently looking into 'What next for the poppy cascade' and will let you know as soon as we can
